A lot of people in audio tech circles will tell you that when downsampling a track, it is vitally important to dither it in order to maintain the integrity of the digital information and the quality of the sound.
So I invite you to listen for yourself. Here are 4 sample files that were downsampled from 24bit 96Khz to 16bit 44.1Khz. One wasn’t dithered at all, one has standard dithering, and the other two have different algorithms of noise-shaping. Can you tell which one is which?
